Missouri Girls HS Basketball Predictions 3/15/2020


I had more luck over on the Missouri boys side of HS ratings than I did with the girls, as I have spent several years refining the boys ratings.  I picked 58% of all games this past week but missed badly on classes one, two and three.  I had more luck with four and five, where I probably invested more calculating time.

Unfortunately for me, I obviously irritated an obnoxious Walnut Grove fan who tweeted an cruel and ugly comment back.  I should have looked at their rich tradition of girls basketball success rather than my paltry ratings calculations from this year.  I don't know why we have so many politically incorrect crap on Twitter now a days.  Oh, wait!  We have bad role models running our country....LOL.

Enough political commentary.  We were lucky to get these championship games in, 49 other states cancelled their high school play-offs.  I hope it was a good decision anyway.

Class four looks like an Incarnate Word vs. Cape Notre Dame final and it should be a cliff-hanger.  I give Incarnate Word a slight nod.

In class five, Rock Bridge should barely edge out Blue Springs but this could go overtime before someone wins.

On the boys side, I have tried to educate my readers into the mathematics behind the calculation of 550+ teams into one spreadsheet.  The formula is interactive so that if a team you played, and beat, continues to improve, their improvement will reflect on you rating. I made a statement in the first blog posting that I included the games rated because it impacts the soundness or robustness of the rating.  So a team like Incarnate Word, who has a chance to become a state champion again, I rated 18 games and I am fairly confident in their rating.  On the other hand, for a team like the 18-8 Schuyler County Lady Rams in Lancaster, MO, I only picked two games at the beginning of their schedule and their rating was not robust.  I needed more data (game scores) to plug into the model.  I rated them an 81 and, sure enough,  @LadyRamsBallers called me on their rating.  Somehow the disclaimer that teams with fewer score comparisons were questionable ratings did not deter this coach or support

St. Louis Area Girls High School Basketball rankings 1302020

It's Bill Gunn's fault.  LOL. He expressed interest in a Girls high school basketball rankings to go with the Boys high school basketball rankings that I post over at Gramps2020.blogspot.com and so I developed a spreadsheet for the girls and filled  in some of the area teams as an example for him. Of course, Bill is inundated with Kirkwood's feeder program, teaching, coaching and managing the little league baseball as well.  I understand..... he has a real job and I am just a semi-retired Grandpa who loves statistics and basketball. So, now I am stuck.  I have this spreadsheet which I would gladly share with someone who loves girls basketball and like what I am doing on the boys side.  If you have a strong interest and can motor around an Excel spreadsheet, I would love to hand this off.  Doing the boys state-wide, and adding in the Illinois side of St. Louis, I have over 1000 boys teams my algorithm.  The girl's ratings could be limited to St. Louis area o
